“But as it is written: ‘Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.’ But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit.”
- 1st Corinthians 2:9-10 (NKJV)
There are moments in our walk with God when we assume that if we can see it, hear it, or think it through, we will understand it. When it comes to the deep things of God, this is not the case. Our faculties, that is, our natural abilities are useless without revelation.
Scripture tells us that eyes may see and ears may hear, yet understanding may still be absent. Jeremiah declared, “Hear this now, O foolish people, without understanding, who have eyes and see not, and who have ears and hear not” (Jeremiah 5:21, NKJV). The issue is not physical blindness or deafness. The issue is spiritual perception.
God’s truth is often hidden in plain sight. The message may be preached. The Word may be read. Yet, until the Spirit reveals it, it remains information without transformation. Natural intelligence cannot unlock divine wisdom. Education cannot replace revelation. Human logic cannot decode eternal mysteries.
Natural intelligence cannot unlock divine wisdom.
This is why we must depend on the Spirit. The passage in 1 Corinthians gives us hope. “But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit.” What eyes cannot grasp, the Spirit unveils. What ears cannot process, the Spirit clarifies. What the heart cannot conceive, the Spirit makes known.
Therefore, spiritual growth goes beyond sharper reasoning to surrendered listening. Humility, not assumption, is key. When we rely only on intellect, we risk closing the very faculties we trust. But when we ask the Lord for revelation, our understanding opens.
Today, choose not merely to see, but to perceive. Not merely to hear, but to understand. May our faculties come alive under the light of divine revelation.
Song
Open the eyes of my heart, Lord,
Open the eyes of my heart;
I want to see You,
I want to see You.
Prayer – Father, in the name of Jesus, we ask for revelation. Where our eyes have seen but not perceived, open them. Where our ears have heard but not understood, awaken them. Deliver us from relying only on natural reasoning. Reveal Your deep things to us by Your Spirit. In Jesus’ name, Amen
