“For this cause I was born, and for this cause I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth…”
– John 18:37 (NKJV)
Have you ever reached the end of a busy day and wondered, “Did anything I did today really matter?” Many of us become so occupied with responsibilities, deadlines, family, ministry, and simply trying to make it through the day that we forget that God did not create us by accident. Every believer has been sent into the world with a divine purpose.
Jesus understood this better than anyone. Standing before Pilate, facing the cross, He did not speak as someone who was confused about His life. Instead, He declared with confidence, “For this cause I was born.” Jesus knew why He had come. His circumstances did not define Him. His purpose did.
That same principle applies to us. We are not simply passing through life, hoping something meaningful happens. God created each of us intentionally and placed us in our families, workplaces, communities, and churches for a reason. We may have different careers, personalities, or gifts, but every child of God has a purpose that points beyond themself. Our lives are meant to reveal Christ and advance His Kingdom wherever He has placed us.
You were not born merely to exist. You were born for a cause.
Think of a lighthouse standing on a rocky coastline. It does not chase ships across the ocean or struggle to make itself noticed. It simply stands where it was built and shines the light it was created to give. During calm weather, its purpose may seem ordinary. Yet when storms arrive and darkness covers the sea, that same light becomes the difference between safety and disaster. The lighthouse does not question whether it is useful. It simply fulfils the purpose for which it was built.
Our lives are the same. God is not asking us to become someone else. He is asking us to faithfully shine where He has placed us. Someone may need your encouragement at work. Your family may need your prayers. Your neighbourhood may need your kindness. Your church may need your gifts. What seems ordinary to you may be the very reason God positioned you there.
When you understand that your life has a God-given purpose, even ordinary moments become opportunities for eternal impact. Instead of asking, “What do I want from life?” ask, “Lord, what do You want to accomplish through me today?”
You were not born merely to exist. You were born for a cause.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for creating me with purpose. Forgive me for the times I have allowed busyness, fear, or comparison to distract me from the assignment You have given me. Open my eyes to the opportunities You have placed before me today. Help me to shine Your light faithfully wherever You have positioned me and to live each day with the confidence that my life has eternal significance. Let everything I do bring glory to Jesus Christ. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
