Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming.
Matthew 25:13 (NKJV)
Planning is a practical expression of faith—it’s how you prepare to walk into what you’ve prayed for. Planning does not take the place of God or the place of prayer. Rather, after praying, you should make a plan.
This is like someone looking to buy a property. After prayer, there should be a plan for how to pay for the house—examining income and determining the size and cost of property they can afford.
The importance of planning cannot be overstated. In today’s devotional, we’ll examine how Jesus fed the five thousand—specifically the connection between prayer and a plan.
But He said to them, “You give them something to eat.”
And they said, “We have no more than five loaves and two fish, unless we go and buy food for all these people.” For there were about five thousand men.
Then He said to His disciples, “Make them sit down in groups of fifty.”
And they did so and made them all sit down.
Then He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, He blessed and broke them and gave them to the disciples to set before the multitude.
—Luke 9:13–16 (NKJV)
This familiar story shows us not just a miracle, but a method. Jesus could have simply prayed and the same miracle would have occurred, but instead, He first instructed the crowd to sit in groups of fifty.
That was the plan.
The importance of planning cannot be overstated.
Imagine a famished crowd that hadn’t eaten all day suddenly surrounded by baskets of bread—it would have been chaotic. Without structure, confusion would have overtaken the miracle. To ensure order, Jesus made a plan before the provision came.
Maybe you’re expecting a job offer—make a plan. Go to the office. Dress up in the suit you would wear on your first day.
Waiting for the fruit of the womb? Plan. Get the baby’s cot, the maternity gown, and study parenting.
Your plan is the assurance that you are ready for your miracle. It demonstrates your preparation and positions you to receive and handle what’s coming—just as Jesus did.
As you wait for your expectation to materialize, get ready for your miracle. Make a plan.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart
And lean not on your own understanding
In all your ways acknowledge Him
And He shall direct
And He shall direct your path.
Song Trust in the Lord by Don Moen
Prayer – Lord guide my steps, give me directions on what to do while waiting for the manifestation of what I had prayed for. I ask that the Holy Spirit brood over the plans I have made and let the testimonies manifest speedily in Jesus name.
