Call for Help

November 13, 2024

" My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.".

- Psalm 121:2  (NKJV)

In the beginning, when God made man, he was not created to do life all alone. The notion by some that they can do it all alone is not consistent with the Scriptures. In Genesis 2:18, Lord God said “It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him. If God saw that you needed help then, how then do you think you can do it now without a helper?

Help can either come from God or from man. From the above scriptures, Adam needed help to be able to function optimally and to fulfil his purpose. That was why God came in the cool of the day, to fellowship with him. At the right time, God also made him a companion, Eve as his helpmeet.

The woman with the issue of blood in Mark 5:25-29, had sought help from men, in this case, doctors. They had tried everything possible to stop her flow of blood but to no avail. At this point, this woman had to look up to Jesus for help concerning the lingering issue. And she got it.

Life can be puzzling, and challenging, and it is okay to call for help in times of need.

In Daniel 2:17-19, King Nebuchadnezzar’s decree was grave and depressing. No one seemed to know what to do. Daniel called for help, engaged with Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, his companions that they might seek mercies from God. He did not go about with a gloomy countenance, neither did he stop serving God because of what he was going through. Through the power of collective prayer in agreement, he obtained the answer in a night vision.

One of the contributing factors to the success of the early church was the accessibility to the different forms of help needed by the people. As a church, one of the reasons we have life groups otherwise known as house fellowships is to be a contact for members should there be a need for help.

Life can be puzzling, and challenging, and it is okay to call for help in times of need. Whether the help is coming from men or from God, the most important thing is recognizing the need for help and taking steps towards getting the help that you need.

Help could come in form of speaking with someone designated in the church, leaders and your pastors. Every time prayers are rendered on any matter; it is simply an act of calling for the help of God. The solution that you seek, the direction, is only a word or counsel away. Help is available, the Lord your helper, Ebenezer, is waiting for your call.

Song of Worship

Ebenezer, ay (Ebenezer, ay)

Ebenezer, ay (Ebenezer, ay)

My stone of help, only You are my helper

When I call, You answer me

When I am down, You lift me up

Say, my stone of help, only You are my helper

Song: Ebenezer by Nathaniel Bassey

Prayer - Lord, I recognize the need for help in my life. I cannot do it alone, help me, Lord. I ask this day that You send help to me in all my ways in Jesus' name.
