"Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free"
- John 8:31-32 (NKJV)
The Word of God is central to a Christian’s life. It is not merely a book to read; it is a guide to live by, a source of wisdom, and the key to experiencing freedom, growth, and transformation. However, the Word cannot operate in your life unless it is loved, known, and obeyed.
In John 8:31-32, Jesus teaches that abiding in His Word leads to discipleship, knowledge of the truth, and freedom. Yet, many Christians miss the fullness of this truth because they approach the Word casually or sporadically. Today, let’s explore how to engage with the Word of God effectively so it becomes a transformative force in your life.
Love the Word
Your attitude toward the Word of God in our daily lives is crucial. The psalmist expresses in Psalm 119:97 (NKJV), "Oh, how I love Your law! It is my meditation all the day." Loving the Word means prioritizing it above all else. Many flock to services seeking miracles, blessings, and anointing, yet few take the time to sit at the feet of Jesus and engage deeply with His Word. It is the Word that transforms lives and lays the foundation for lasting change.
The Word becomes operational in your life only when you put it into action.
Know the Word
To operate effectively in the Word, you must first know it. Colossians 3:16 (NKJV) instructs us that the Word of God must dwell in us richly. Knowing the Word goes beyond casual reading; but it involves studying, memorizing, and deeply understanding its truths. This knowledge equips you to face life’s challenges, make godly decisions, and live victoriously. Without a firm grasp of the Word, you remain vulnerable to deception and stagnation.
Christianity is not merely about activity; it is Word-driven. Like Martha, many believers get caught up in church activities, mistaking busyness for spirituality. In contrast, Mary, Martha’s sister, chose to sit at Jesus' feet and listen to His teachings. Jesus commended her, saying, "But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her" (Luke 10:42 NKJV). The priority is clear: the Word of God must take precedence over everything else.
Obey the Word
Loving and knowing the Word is incomplete without obedience. Jesus reminds us in John 13:17 (NKJV), "If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them." Obedience transforms knowledge into experience. Many Christians may agree with the Word in theory but fail to act upon it in practice. Mere mental assent to God’s promises is insufficient; it is the application of faith through obedience that yields results. The Word becomes operational in your life only when you put it into action.
Make the Word your foundation and watch as it transforms your life in ways you never imagined!
