Face Your Goliath

October 03, 2024

Read 1 Samuel 17:4-10 (NKJV)

In life, challenges often present themselves as obstacles that seem insurmountable. However, the presence of a challenge does not mean that God is against you or that the promise He has for you is out of reach. Instead, it is a call to contend and fight for the possibilities that God has placed before you.

In 1 Samuel 17:4-10, we encounter the story of David and Goliath. Goliath, a giant over nine feet tall with a terrifying reputation, stood before the Israelites, openly defying them. His confidence and bold taunts struck fear into the hearts of God’s people. But for David, this was not a time to shrink back in fear; it was a time to contend for the victory God had promised His people.

When the enemy stands before you, daring you and declaring that your situation is impossible, how do you respond? Do you retreat in fear, or do you stand firm in the promises of God? The story of David teaches us that sometimes, we must step up and fight, especially when the enemy is openly defying us.

It is a call to contend and fight for the possibilities that God has placed before you.

David didn’t let Goliath’s reputation or size intimidate him. Instead, he relied on God’s strength and boldly declared, “For the battle is the Lord’s” (1 Samuel 17:47 NKJV). He understood that, as believers, we are called to contend for what God has already declared as ours.

Jesus reminds us in Matthew 11:12 (NKJV) that “the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force.” This means that as Christians, we are warriors equipped to contend and fight for God’s promises in our lives. We cannot afford to back down in the face of challenges. Instead, we must face them head-on, with faith that God is on our side.

So, what is your Goliath today? Is it a medical diagnosis, a financial challenge, a relationship issue, or something else that seems too big to overcome? Whatever it is, remember that God is with you, and He calls you to contend for your possibilities.

Stand firm, trust in God’s strength, and don’t back down. The victory is yours because the battle belongs to the Lord.

Battle Belongs

Song by Phil Wickham

Prayer - Heavenly Father, thank You for reminding us that we are called to contend for the possibilities You have placed before us. Give us the courage and strength to face our challenges head-on, knowing that You are with us. Help us to stand firm in faith, trusting that the battle belongs to You and that victory is assured. We declare that no challenge is too great, and we will not back down because You are our strength and our shield. In Jesus' name, Amen.
