If you are reading this, you want to learn how to receive revelations from God. Great! But before we begin to understand how to receive revelation from God, we must embrace a few foundational truths that will form our basis.

1. We can receive revelation from God because we are Spirit Beings

First and foremost, we must embrace the mindset that we are spirit first and body second. Simply put we are spirit beings living in a body. But not just any spirit, we are actually made in God's very image.

How do we know this? It says it in the Bible that we were made in His own image

Genesis 1: 26-31 tells us:

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

And John 4:24 is very clear in expressing the truth that God is not of flesh, but He is of Spirit.

If God is spirit, and we were made in his image, surely that means we are spirit-beings also.

Now, spirit does not mean all spirit is in the image of God. There are Good, Bad and Ugly spirits. In fact, we are warned to be especially aware of this in 1 John 4:1

Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are of God; for many false prophets have gone out into the world.

But among all the spirit beings in existence, we are the only ones created in the image of God, which is good.

This is the first thing we must remember in seeking to receive revelation from God - God is Spirit, and we, in relating to him must do so in Spirit.

For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth John 4:24

2. We have the GIFT of the Holy Spirit to receive revelation from God

The next thing to remember is that when we give our lives to Christ, we receive the gracious gift which is the Holy Spirit. the Holy Spirit which dwells inside of our spirit being. We see this promised by Christ Himself in John 7:38-39.

He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified

When the Holy Spirit dwells inside of us, we are blessed among many things, with the ability to speak in tongues, the language that adds depths our language cannot. We see here in 1 Corinthians 2:1-5, Paul speaks testimony to the dwelling of the Holy Spirit in him which allows him to speak with wisdom his flesh could not.

Why are we speaking about this? It's because this also means that we can communicate at a much deeper and more intimate level with God's Spirit - and this is key to receiving revelation from God.

With those foundation mindsets in place, let us now get into the steps to receiving revelation from God

Step 1 into the journey of receiving revelation from God is to reSEARCH.

Being conscious of your spirit nature and your access to God's spirit is only the beginning.

What do you actually do with this, especially when you want a solution or revelation from God for a real-life problem? The answer is to SEARCH the Spirit!

As we saw earlier, through the Spirit of God we can gain access into wisdom our flesh cannot. Who better to help with a problem to our solutions than someone who can see the things we cannot i.e The Spirit of God.

When we look at 1 Corinthians 2:10-11, we can see here that the Spirit of God can search the deep things of God.

This is our most important step because this is the gateway into our instructions. Our in this sense really means your. This is because we all have our own unique problems which will need its own unique solution. We cannot look to others to copy from but must seek the Holy Spirit for our own custom solution to our own custom problem.

We do this through time spent in prayer and in the Word of God while carrying the consciousness of our connection to Him.

Step number 2 is the revelation itself.

Now you have sought out the Holy Spirit to search for guidance and wisdom, and as a result the veil that caused your natural eye to not see has been removed (Revelations 1:10-12, 2 Kings 3:17, John 2:7-8). You are now given the grace to see, hear and feel it in your heart, your solution.

Step 3, your 2nd most important step, which is, reception (to receive).

In 2 Kings 7:1-2, Elisha gave an officer a revelation he had received from the Lord, but the officer expressed his doubt and Elisha responds with “in fact, you shall see it with your eyes, but you shall not eat of it”.

Because the officer did not believe, he did not receive his revelation.

It is noteworthy that this officer was not a man of God. The Bible makes it clear when the writer of 2 Kings points out the distinction between Elisha (who was a man of God) and the officer who was in doubt. Why is that something to note? The officer could not receive this revelation that would give him substance because the revelation is a thing from the Spirit of God. And in order to receive the things of God we must work in the Spirit of God.

1 Corinthians 2:14 “But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.”

But if we are to repent of the limitations of our human mind in the matter of the revelations of God in our life, God shows His mercy on us, giving us another opportunity to receive what He is giving to us.

Step 4, the final step for the manifestation of your revelations, which is Realization.

Just as we touched on earlier in 1 Corinthians 2:14, we are shown that in order to receive what is being revealed to us by God we must have spiritual discernment for the things of God are spiritual discerned. How can we gain spiritual discernment? By seeking discernment from the Spirit of God.

A lesson to learn from scripture is the lesson of Solomon’s son, Rehoboam. He was blessed with the reign of 12 different nations succeeded from his father. And instead of seeking the counsel of the word (the Spirit of God), he sought the counsel of his friends who told him what he wanted to hear to boost his ego. He chose to eat from the fruit of foolishness and not the Spirit of Discernment which bears fruits of Wisdom.

We must seek the word of the Lord for spiritual discernment, for the word is of the Spirit of God. And when we call out on the Spirit of God, we must believe in the receiving of our revelations so that we may have them (Mark 11:24).

More importantly, when we speak in tongues (pray by the spirit) we are creating spiritual stamina which allows us to be strong enough to take what is being revealed to us (Hebrews 11:11, Romans 8:26).

Well, you have reached the end of this miniature guidebook into the wonderful revelations of Yahweh.

Take some time and seek the Spirit of God to reveal unto you, things not seen or heard by man, so that you may receive wisdom to solve all manner of problems.
