Love is a necessity

Love and relationship with others are one of God’s greatest gifts to mankind. God created and designed mankind as relational beings. God is a relational Being. He exists as the Trinity – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. And since God created humanity in His own image, we are also relational beings.
We are not designed to do life alone. In today’s Bible text in Genesis 2:18A, God said, “it is not good that man should be alone.” This is the first time in Genesis that God sees something in creation that is not good. No one is self-sufficient. We all need one another. This tells us that living a life lived with God’s love is not an option. This is a necessity.
Love is a choice to treat others with kindness, compassion, and respect.
Can you imagine a life without love or people? Living alone on a deserted Island?
Even the most introverted people who enjoy their solitude have their close clan – people who are their ‘safe place’ where they can express themselves and the love they have within them.
Without love, we wouldn’t survive. And beyond mere survival, love helps us live a life of dominion, and flourish as a society.
As believers, love is one of the ways that we manifest dominion. 1 John 4:7-8 says, “Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.”
God is love. This implies that our expression of love indicates our likeness to God. And since all things surrender to God, our dominion is guaranteed when we truly love one another.
Too often, love is reduced to an emotion, but love is much more than an emotion. It is a choice to treat others with kindness, compassion, and respect. By loving others, we demonstrate God’s very existence to them. Go live a life of love!
