Our Identity in God’s Blessing I

January 8, 2025

“So, God created man in His own image; in the image of God, He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

Genesis 1: 27-28 (NKJV)

Our Bible text reminds us that our identity is not defined by the work we do; rather, we derive our identity from being created in the image of God. This means that while the image of God gives us our identity, it is the blessing that enables us to function within that identity.

The blessing of God unlocks the potential embedded in our identity in Christ. Created in God’s image, we possess His nature, but it is the blessing that empowers us to live out this identity. In a world filled with brokenness, poverty, sickness, and trials, it can be challenging to reconcile this truth with our lived experiences. As believers, we must recognize that God's blessing transcends our circumstances. The blessing is not a reflection of where we are but a declaration of where God is taking us.

God's blessing offers a glimpse of the abundant life He has prepared for you.

Consider the phrase in our Bible text: “Be fruitful and multiply.” When these words were spoken, humanity had not yet achieved any of these things. This blessing was prophetic, proclaiming a reality yet to unfold. It reminds us that God’s blessings are not confined to our present but extend into our future. Even when life’s circumstances seem to contradict God’s promises, His blessings declare what will be. For instance, God calls us fruitful, even when does not look like it. When we align ourselves with His Word, the blessing activates this truth within us.

As we embrace this truth, let us remember that blessings are one of the expressions of the spirit of prophecy, speaking into our futures and guiding us into God’s plans. Your current situation is not your final destination. God's blessing offers a glimpse of the abundant life He has prepared for you—a life of fruitfulness, purpose, and fulfilment in Him.

Today, take a moment to reflect on an area of your life where you feel stuck or barren. Speak God’s promises over it, declaring fruitfulness and alignment with His plan. Trust that His blessing will activate His purpose in you.
