“Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus.”
- Hebrews 10:19 (NKJV)
Yesterday, we reflected on approaching the brazen altar through the blood of Jesus, understanding the need for cleansing and redemption. Today, we explore the next steps in our journey toward God's presence -entering the Holy Place and the Holy of Holies. The tabernacle of Moses provides a powerful picture of this spiritual progression. Just as the physical inner courts had no sunlight, requiring a special light source, so too do we rely on the Holy Spirit and God's Word to illuminate our hearts on this journey of faith.
In the tabernacle, the Menorah, a seven-branched lampstand provided light within the Holy Place. This lamp represents the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Light, who guides and enlightens us as we draw closer to God. Jesus promised us this Helper, saying, “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things...” (John 14:26). The Holy Spirit illuminates God’s Word.
The Holy Spirit and God’s Word are vital as we seek deeper intimacy with God.
Adjacent to the Menorah in the Holy place was the table of shewbread. This bread represents the Word of God. The bible tells us in Matthew 4:4, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God”. When we engage with the Scriptures, we partake of this spiritual bread, feeding and renewing our inner man.
These two elements, the Holy Spirit and God’s Word are vital as we seek deeper intimacy. Just as the priests in the tabernacle ministered in the light of the Menorah and partook of the bread, we must also allow the Holy Spirit to illuminate and apply Scripture to our lives. Together, they prepare us to enter the Holy of Holies, where we encounter the manifest presence of God.
You can apply the message in this devotional to your life today by inviting the Holy Spirit to guide you each time you study the word of God. Ask Him to reveal fresh truths and give you wisdom for your circumstances. Let God's Word become your daily bread. Intentionally create time in your day to commune with the Holy Spirit and as you do, you will experience a deeper connection with God and greater boldness to enter into His manifest presence.
