Seeking God’s Face

When You said, “Seek My face,” My heart said to You, “Your face, LORD, I will seek.”

–  Psalm 27:8 (NKJV)

In the hustle and bustle of our daily lives, it's easy to lose sight of what truly matters. The world bombards us with distractions, demands our attention, and often leaves us feeling overwhelmed. Yet, amid the chaos, there is a timeless invitation that echoes through the corridors of scripture: "Seek the face of God."

One of the pathways to seeking his face is through prayer. Prayer is not just an emergency kit that we only bring out when there is a disaster. For a believer, it is much more. It is a place of communion with the Father. In that place, we have encounters with God, seek His face and draw strength to navigate the journey of life.

The words in 2 Corinthians 3:18 (AMP) are powerful and illuminating:

And we all, with unveiled face, continually seeing as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are progressively being transformed into His image from [one degree of] glory to [even more] glory, which comes from the Lord, [who is] the Spirit.

Make a commitment to seek God’s face continually.

So, we see that to seek the face of God goes beyond the physical definition or the literal interpretation; it is a spiritual journey. A journey of self-discovery, intimacy, and relationship with God.  The Amplified translation of 1 Chronicles 16:11 says: Seek the Lord and His strength; Seek His face continually [longing to be in His presence].

The key emphasis in the scripture is the word ‘continually’ which further strengthens this as being a spiritual journey. It is a marathon, not a sprint. It is common to see believers having a ‘moment’ of intimacy with God and after a while, struggle to maintain the tempo of that worship. When we understand what seeking His face is and what benefit it gives to us, we would let go of the struggles in the place of prayer, spending time with the Word and worship becomes a lifestyle.

When we seek the face of God, the light of God shines upon us as we see in Numbers 6:24-26: The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace

Tomorrow we will explore more of these benefits. But for today, make a commitment to seek God’s face consistently and continually so that you may be transformed into more of His glory as promised in His word.

Today, as you take the decision to proceed on this journey of faith by seeking the face of God, may you find Him. May you draw strength and joy to keep you going in the face of adversity and may your life become a reflection of Him.
