“The Lord bless you and keep you; The Lord make His face shine upon you,
And be gracious to you; The Lord lift up His countenance upon you,
And give you peace.”
- Numbers 6:24-26 (NKJV)
The concept of God's face shining upon us is a profound biblical metaphor symbolizing His favour, blessing, and intimate presence in our lives. This imagery is noticeable in the priestly blessing of Numbers 6:24-26.
When God's face shines upon us, it signifies His favour, guidance, and the illumination of our path. This divine light brings clarity, direction, and the establishment of His will in our lives.
Psalm 97:11 declares, "Light is sown for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart." This suggests that God's light is a seed planted in our lives, destined to bring forth righteousness and joy. Similarly, Job, described as a righteous man, acknowledged the significance of God's light in his life. In Job 29:2-3, he reminisces, "Oh, that I were as in months past, as in the days when God watched over me; when His lamp shone upon my head, and when by His light I walked through darkness." Job attributed his successes and the clarity in his path to the light of God shining upon him.
Seeking God's face positions us to receive His favour, guidance, and purpose.
Furthermore, Job 22:28-29 emphasizes the authority granted when God's light is upon us. This passage highlights that under God's illuminating favour, our declarations align with His will, leading to their fulfillment. It encourages us to speak life and blessings, especially in challenging times, trusting that God's light will guide and establish our ways.
The priestly blessing in Numbers 6:24-26 further illustrates the significance of God's shining face on His people. Here, the shining face of God is associated with grace and peace, indicating that His favour brings about a state of well-being and divine grace.
In Psalm 67:1, the psalmist prays, " God be merciful unto us, and bless us; and cause his face to shine upon us; Selah." This reflects the understanding that there is a relationship between the shining of God's face and mercy. It suggests that the blessings you seek are linked to the face of God shining.
Therefore, as we seek God's face and His light in our lives, we position ourselves to receive His favour, guidance, and the fulfillment of His purpose. Let us be mindful of our words and actions, ensuring they align with His will, so that His light may shine through us, bringing glory to His name and drawing others to His saving power.

The Blessing

Prayer - Lord, as we seek Your face and live righteously, we position ourselves to receive Your blessings. May Your shining face not only reflect Your favour but also transform us, enabling us to reflect Your light to others. In this way, we become channels of Your love and grace in the world. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
