The Power of Subduing Faith

January 13, 2025

"And what shall I more say? for the time would fail me to tell of Gedeon, and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephthae; of David also, and Samuel, and of the prophets:

Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions.’’

- Hebrews 11: 32-33 (KJV)

One of the most profound ways to subdue challenges is through faith. To subdue means to overcome or win, but the term carries deeper significance. In Greek, it implies entering a fight or contest with the intention to prevail. Subduing faith is intentional, not accidental. You wouldn’t casually step into the ring with a professional boxer; it requires years of training and preparation. Unlike a friendly match, faith actively engages in the battle, refusing to back down from challenges.

You might wonder, “Why engage in a contest when I can simply stay calm?” Just as rain falls on both the good and the bad, life throws unexpected curveballs our way. We must be ready to confront any trouble that arises, even when it’s uninvited.

Go forward! Despite disappointments and unforeseen outcomes, it’s time to press on.

In our anchor scripture today, we see Gideon and Barak who subdued kingdoms through their faith. Gideon felt forgotten, hiding in fear, while Barak was hesitant and afraid to act. If these men, viewed as “ordinary and insignificant,” could overcome their world, then so can you. Consider Samson—an intriguing figure in the Bible. Despite his weaknesses and failures, when the Philistines thought all was lost, he summoned the courage to engage his faith and subdue his enemies. Never underestimate any believer; as long as there is breath, there is hope. No matter your circumstances, you can still emerge victorious.

Champions are not defined by their lack of faults or mistakes. They win by defying the odds and pressing on despite fear and uncertainty. When the Israelites crossed the Red Sea, many may have felt doubt or fear, yet they moved forward anyway.

"And the Lord said to Moses, “Why do you cry to Me? Tell the children of Israel to go forward.”" — Exodus 14:15 (NKJV)

This is your word today: Go forward! Despite disappointments and unforeseen outcomes, it’s time to press on. You will win
