“Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain..’’
– John 12:24 (NKJV)
Today, we will explore the workings of a seed and the principles governing its potency. Before we dive in, let’s do a little self-check. What was your initial reaction to the word “seed”—a knee-jerk response or excitement? Did it strike a nerve? If so, you’ll want to continue reading. Often, discussions about seeds elicit diverse reactions, especially regarding finances. Our focus today will be on how seeds can produce life-changing results.
Elijah and the Widow of Zarephath (1 Kings 17:10-13 NKJV): Shouldn’t Elijah have provided for the widow, knowing she had only a little food left? It may seem insensitive at first, but God’s request for something from us is not because He lacks; rather, it’s an opportunity for our blessing. The Creator of Heaven and Earth lacks nothing! Sometimes, letting go might not make sense, but it is wise to release what we have to receive more. The widow’s offering was a seed to the Lord, and in return, she received a continuous supply. Just as Elijah was a channel of blessing, your giving is ultimately unto the Lord, not to man.
Giving is an act of absolute trust in God’s provisions and promises.
Jesus and the Little Boy (John 6:8-11 NKJV): In a time of need, a young boy offered his meager meal to feed a multitude. How could Jesus accept food from a child? Remember, whenever God asks for something from you, it is for your own benefit. Withholding only deprives us. The Lord who provided manna from heaven can raise others to fulfill His purposes. When the boy released his lunch, it led to a miraculous multiplication—far more than he could have preserved by holding back.
David’s Sacrifice (2 Samuel 24:15-25): This story teaches us that seeds, giving, and sacrifices are not merely for material blessings; they are powerful weapons in spiritual warfare. When faced with challenges and obstacles, engage the power of seeds and sacrifices. Even in times of plague and sickness, David offered sacrifices with a sincere heart, and the calamity ceased.
Throughout scripture, we see how seeds and sacrifices have transformed lives. One truth remains clear: giving is an act of absolute trust in God’s provisions and promises. We can be confident that He who is faithful will fulfill His promises.
