Now when they saw him afar off, even before he came near them, they conspired against him to kill him. Then they said to one another, ‘Look, this dreamer is coming!’.
– Genesis 37:18–19 (NKJV)

The truth of your dream matters more than you may realize. From the very moment a dream is born, it often encounters resistance. But opposition doesn’t mean something is wrong—it may signal that something powerful and purposeful is at work within you.

When Dreams Stir Resistance

Joseph carried a dream long before it was understood. Before he even arrived, others reacted to what he carried. They didn’t wait to listen or understand; they saw him coming and responded to the dream in him.

This reminds us that God-given dreams are not always quietly received. Sometimes they are noticed before they are understood, and that attention can stir unexpected reactions.

Don’t Quit When Opposition Comes

There’s a quiet temptation during difficulty—wanting us—to step back, give up, or silence what once gave us hope. But that’s the moment we must be the most careful. Don’t shut down your dream when challenges arise.

The resistance Joseph faced wasn’t truly about him; it was about the dream. What God had placed in him stirred something in others. In the same way, the pressure you feel is often connected to the purpose within you.

Yes, setting the dream aside might relieve the tension for a while, but it also halts the very progress God intended. That’s why we must guard what He has entrusted to us.

What was taken externally could not remove what God had planted internally.

Responding to Discouragement

There will be moments when what you see doesn’t match what God promised. When circumstances feel disheartening or confusing, remember; you are not powerless. You can choose to reject what contradicts God’s word over your life.

Instead of settling into fear or doubt, choose to stand firm in faith. Hold tightly to the vision God has given you. Stay anchored in hope, even when the world and life’s current tries to pull you away.

Hold the Dream Gently, but Firmly

A dream is not something we force, rather it’s something we protect. Think of it like a flame in a dark place. You don’t grip it in fear, but you guard it with care. You keep it alive by remembering the One who lit it in the first place.

Even when Joseph was stripped of his coat, his dream remained. What was taken externally could not remove what God had planted internally.

So, don’t shut down your dream. Hold it. Guard it. Nurture it. Let nothing—no person, no setback, no season—strip you of what God has placed within you.

Let that dream guide you forward, one faithful step at a time.

Prayer – Father, thank You for every dream You have placed within us. Help us not to shut them down in the face of challenges. Strengthen our hearts to hold on to what You have shown us. Teach us to stand firm and walk forward in faith. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
