Peter’s journey onto the water remains one of Scripture’s most compelling portraits of faith. When he saw Jesus walking toward him on the sea, Peter said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” In that moment, Peter made a defining choice — he chose to trust the Word of Jesus over the natural laws of the world around him.
Faith, at its core, is a decision. It begins when we choose to believe that God’s Word is true, even when everything we see argues otherwise. When Jesus said, “Come,” Peter stepped out — not because he understood the storm, but because he trusted the One who ruled over it. Faith is not about predicting the weather; it’s about obeying the Lord who commands the wind.
Faith, at its core, is a decision.
But as Peter walked, the wind grew stronger, and fear found its way in. The moment he shifted his focus from Jesus to the waves, he began to sink. This moment reveals a timeless truth: fear weakens what faith begins. Every time fear rises, it whispers questions meant to erode our confidence in God. That’s why real faith means refusing to change your mind after you have believed. It is standing firm in trust, even while the waves roar.
When Peter cried, “Lord, save me!” Jesus immediately reached out His hand. The beauty of that moment is this — even faltering faith still reaches the ears of a faithful Saviour. Faith isn’t the absence of fear; it’s trusting God beyond it. And when our faith wavers, His mercy never does.
In your own life, storms will come. Winds of doubt, waves of delay, and tides of uncertainty will rise against your obedience. But faith doesn’t waver at the sight of waves — it looks to the One who walks above them. The next time fear threatens to pull you under, remember Peter’s story: step out on God’s Word, keep your eyes on Jesus, and when you slip, call His name.
The same hand that lifted Peter will lift you, too.

Trust and obey
Prayer – Father, strengthen our hearts to act on Your word. Deliver us from fear and hesitation. May our faith not be theory, but action rooted in trust. As we obey, let us see Your power at work in our lives, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
