“Desire without knowledge is not good—how much more will hasty feet miss the way!

  Proverbs 19:2 (NIV)

Many believers sincerely do pray. We do not have a scarcity of praying believers; we only have a dearth of praying believers with a solid plan.

When nations go to war, the outcome is heavily dependent on the war plans deployed. Even with greater numbers of troops, it is still possible to lose a battle to an opponent with a smarter strategy.  The Battle of Agincourt in 1415 shows how smart strategy can beat superior force. Though vastly outnumbered, the English secured victory by selecting terrain that neutralized the French advantage and planning their attack around their highly skilled archers. It wasn’t strength that won the day—it was a smart plan.

The question is: After you have prayed, what’s next? Let us look at the story of Joshua.

Now the Lord said to Joshua: “Do not be afraid, nor be dismayed; take all the people of war with you, and arise, go up to Ai. See, I have given into your hand the king of Ai, his people, his city, and his land. And you shall do to Ai and its king as you did to Jericho and its king. Only its spoil and its cattle you shall take as booty for yourselves. Lay an ambush for the city behind it. ”So Joshua arose, and all the people of war, to go up against Ai; and Joshua chose thirty thousand mighty men of valor and sent them away by night. Joshua 8:1-3 NKJV

After you have prayed, what’s next?

Joshua had just cried out to God in the previous chapter; he had prayed and here we see the response from God. What more could a man be asking for when God Himself said “See, I have given into your hand the king of Ai, his people.”.

Joshua could have just run with this word proclaiming at the top of his lungs to the people “ I have a word from God!” Yet, he stayed in God’s presence until he downloaded the plan from God also.  Never be in a hurry when you come into God’s presence. You can get the word, but you need the plan also.

As Joshua continued to tarry in God’s presence, the plan to realize the word came through, …Lay an ambush for the city behind it. That was a key instruction—the practical strategy for victory.

Many believers have fallen short of God’s will to do them good because they couldn’t stay long enough to receive the blueprint on how prophetic words and God’s promises would be fulfilled in their lives. As you engage in prayers today, get the word—yes—but get the plan also.
