There are people whom God has summoned for greatness (Jeremiah 29:11), but they are unaware of this divine call. It is God’s will for you to prosper, but many times, you may not recognize when He has provided opportunities.

God can be doing things for you, and you may not even know it.

In Hosea 11:3, God was active in the life of Ephraim, yet Ephraim did not realize it. Similarly, Jacob was surprised to discover that God had been present with him all along.

Genesis 28:16 states: “And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, Surely the LORD is in this place, and I knew it not.”

How Does God Summon a Person?

1. He Draws Them Out by Their Cords

When God reaches out to you, He does so by leading and guiding you, much like pulling on cords to direct your path.

Hosea 11:4 says: “I drew them with cords of a man, with bands of love: and I was to them as they that take off the yoke on their jaws, and I laid meat unto them.”

This metaphor is like walking a dog—you hold the leash, and when the dog veers off course, you gently pull the cord to guide it back. God leads us in a similar way, using His cords of love to redirect and guide us toward His plans for our lives.

Ecclesiastes 12:6-7 highlights the importance of these cords, saying:

“Remember your Creator before the silver cord is loosed, or the golden bowl is broken… Then the dust will return to the earth as it was, and the spirit will return to God who gave it.”

This illustrates that God leads your spirit through these cords until the time when the cord is finally severed at the end of your earthly journey.

2. He Leads Through Spiritual Connection

God’s summons often involves a spiritual connection that transcends physical distance. Paul demonstrated this concept in Colossians 2:5 when he said:

“For though I am absent in body, yet I am with you in spirit, rejoicing to see your good order and the firmness of your faith in Christ.”

This spiritual connection also played out in Abraham’s encounter in Genesis 18:1-2. Abraham lifted his eyes and saw three men standing before him, even though they were far off. He ran to meet them, showing that his spiritual perception allowed him to act on what he saw.

Another example is Elisha’s interaction with Gehazi in 2 Kings 5:26. Though Elisha was not physically present when Gehazi deceived Naaman, he said: “Did not my heart go with you when the man turned back from his chariot to meet you?”

This shows how spiritual connection enables us to see and understand beyond the physical. As Christians, walking in the Lord opens our inner eyes to perceive things far beyond the ordinary.

Responding to God’s Summons

When God calls you, He expects deliberate action. He calls you to lift your eyes, to look, and to respond to His summons.

Genesis 13:14-15 says: “And the LORD said unto Abram, after Lot had separated from him, Lift up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art northward, and southward, and eastward, and westward: For all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed forever.”

This lifting of the eyes is not merely physical—it is a deliberate spiritual act. Paul emphasized this in 2 Corinthians 4:18: “While we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.”

Your inner eyes enable you to look and see the supernatural. Awaken and exercise these eyes daily, allowing God’s summons to shape your life and destiny.

Conclusion

God’s divine summons calls you to recognize His guidance, respond with deliberate action, and develop spiritual awareness. His cords of love, spiritual connection, and call to lift your eyes ensure that His purposes are fulfilled in your life.

Do have a blessed week ahead.
