“And the Lord said to Joshua: ‘See! I have given Jericho into your hand, its king, and the mighty men of valor.’
Joshua 6:2 (NKJV)

Every believer has two sets of eyes: natural eyes and spiritual eyes. Your natural eyes help you navigate the physical world, but your eyes of faith allow you to see into the realm of God’s promises. These eyes of faith are far more powerful, for they see what God has already accomplished, not just what circumstances reveal.

The question, then, is this: How do you activate your eyes of faith? The answer is simple. You need light from the Word of God. Just as physical eyes cannot see without natural light, your spiritual eyes cannot function without the light that comes from revelation. Psalm 119:130 declares, “The entrance of Your words gives light.” Every time God’s Word enters your heart, it releases spiritual illumination that allows you to see with clarity and conviction.

In Joshua 6:1–2, Israel stood before the great walls of Jericho. Naturally speaking, the city was “securely shut up.” No one went out, and no one came in. It looked completely impenetrable. Yet God told Joshua, “See! I have given Jericho into your hand.” Notice that God did not say, “I will give,” but “I have given.” Faith always sees the finished work, not the visible obstacle.

The Hebrew word for “see” is ra’ah, which means to perceive with certainty. When God told Joshua to see, He was calling him to look through the eyes of faith and perceive the outcome as already accomplished. Faith sees it before it happens.

Faith always sees the finished work, not the visible obstacle.

This same truth is found in Genesis 15. God promised Abraham a son, but Abraham struggled to believe because his situation said otherwise. Then the Lord took him outside and said, “Look now toward heaven, and count the stars… so shall your descendants be.” God gave Abraham a picture of His promise. Each time Abraham looked at the stars, his spiritual sight was renewed. What he saw strengthened what he believed. The Word brought him light, and that light kept his faith alive until the promise became reality.

Faith’s vision is sure because it is rooted in God’s unchanging Word. As James 1:25 (NKJV) teaches, when you “continue in it,” your understanding grows stronger. The more you look into Scripture, the clearer the picture becomes. If God says you are healed, prosperous, victorious, or fruitful, keep looking until you see it. Keep seeing it again and again until it becomes more real to you than what your natural eyes can observe.

When you begin to see through the eyes of faith, you stop wavering. You no longer ask, “Will it happen?” Instead, you declare, “It is done.” You walk in confidence because faith has already shown you the finished picture.

Beloved, the eyes of faith do not ignore reality; they simply see beyond it. The doctor’s report, the closed door, or the barren field may be your Jericho, but God’s Word still says, “See! I have given it into your hand.” Let His Word fill your heart with light until you can see exactly what He sees.

You are my King

Chris Tomlin

Prayer – Father, thank You for the light of Your Word that gives sight to my spirit. Open my eyes of faith to see as You see. Help me to look again and again until I see with certainty that Your promises are already fulfilled. I believe Your report above all else. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
