Giving does not come naturally to many of us, especially when we have labored and gathered what we now possess over time. Yet we understand that giving carries immense spiritual value. It is one of the profound mysteries in the deep things of God. Knowing this truth, the enemy often provokes resistance to hinder our generosity and stifle the blessings that follow.

Jesus revealed this principle in the Parable of the Sower. The moment the seed was planted, opposition arose. Some seed was stolen immediately. Some was choked by pressure and distraction. Some failed because it lacked depth. Only the seed that fell on good ground produced fruit.

Giving can take many forms, tangible or intangible, material or immaterial. It can be time, energy, or resources. God gave the world His Son (John 3:16). The young boy gave his five loaves and two fish (Matthew 14:14–21). The woman with the alabaster box gave all she had in love (Mark 14:3–9).

The moment the seed was planted, opposition arose.

In the present-day church, offerings and tithes often come under attack in the hearts and minds of believers. Yet Scripture is clear about God’s expectations and the blessings that follow.

Luke 6:38 reminds us, “Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.”

2 Corinthians 9:6–7 further teaches, “He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.”

As believers, we must guard our hearts carefully. We must hold on to the eternal truths of God’s Word, refusing to allow discouragement, fear, or offense to cloud our understanding. In a world filled with distractions and controversy about giving—especially within church culture—the enemy seeks to dull our sensitivity to this powerful spiritual principle.

Galatians 6:9 encourages us, “And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.”

May the seed of giving bear fruit in our hearts and produce a harvest of grace, abundance, and joy in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Song

What’s that you have in your hand

I can use it, if you’re willing to lose it

Take the little you have and make it grand

I am El-Shaddai and I’ll more than supply your need

Prayer – Father, guard our hearts against every attack on Your Word. Help us remain steadfast when pressure arises. Let every seed You have planted in us grow and produce fruit for Your glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen
