“Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead. I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”
– Philippians 3:13-14 (NKJV)
Dreams do not grow through wishing alone. They grow through pursuit.
A dream may begin as inspiration, but it becomes reality through movement, obedience, and persistence. What God places in our hearts is meant to stir us forward, not leave us standing still.
As we continue exploring the theme of protecting our dreams, we discover that one of the greatest threats to a dream is passivity. A dream that is never pursued slowly becomes only a pleasant thought. It remains alive in the imagination but never takes shape in daily life.
That is why pursuit matters.
Joseph did not fully understand how his dream would unfold. He saw the picture, but he did not see the process. And often, that is how God works. He reveals purpose without revealing every detail.
That can feel uncomfortable.
We prefer clarity. We prefer certainty. But faith often walks before it fully understands. Step by step, God guides those who continue moving with Him.
Some dreams are practical and visible. Others seem far beyond our ability. Yet, both require action. We pray, but we also move. We trust God, but we also remain diligent. We believe, but we also continue showing up faithfully.
Because pursuit gives life to the dream.
For many, this is one of the killers of dreams: the comfort zone.
In Genesis 40:14, Joseph said, “But remember me when it is well with thee, and please show kindness to me; make mention of me to Pharaoh and get me out of this house.”
Joseph did not make the prison his comfort zone. Even though he was placed in charge of the other prisoners, he knew there was a greater place prepared for him – a higher calling beyond his current position.
For many, this is one of the killers of dreams: the comfort zone. It is that place where everything and everyone around you encourages you to settle, to let go of what God once placed in your heart, and to chase after something easier.
Yet, small acts of obedience matter more than we realize. Consistency matters. Preparation matters. Faithfulness in hidden seasons matters. Every step taken in alignment with God becomes part of the journey He uses to shape us.
There may be slow seasons. Delayed seasons. Seasons where progress feels invisible. But movement with God is never wasted.
A dream protected but never pursued eventually loses strength. But a dream pursued in faith continues to grow, even when progress seems small.
So, we keep walking.
Not because we already see the full picture, but because we trust the One who gave the dream in the first place.
Take a step today in the direction of that dream, however small it may seem. God is faithful to lead you forward.
Song
When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word
What a glory He sheds on our way!
While we do His good will, He abides with us still
And with all who will trust and obey
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey
Trust and Obey – John H. Sammis
Prayer – Lord, give me the courage to pursue the dream You have placed in my heart. Help me not to remain passive or discouraged when the journey feels uncertain. Teach me to walk by faith, to remain diligent, and to trust Your direction one step at a time. Strengthen me to keep moving forward with confidence in You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
