“Then Elisha said, ‘Hear the word of the Lord. Thus says the Lord: “Tomorrow about this time a seah of fine flour shall be sold for a shekel.”
– 2 Kings 7:1 (NKJV)
Samaria was trapped in a nightmare. Hunger filled the streets. Fear gripped the people. Nothing seemed capable of changing the situation. Yet, in the middle of that darkness, the prophet Elisha spoke a sentence that must have sounded almost impossible:
“Hear the word of the Lord… tomorrow about this time.”
Those words carried hope.
Before God changed the circumstances, He first sent His Word.
This pattern appears repeatedly in the Scripture. When God is about to transform a season, He begins by speaking. His Word enters the situation first, like the first ray of sunlight before dawn.
But when God sends a word, people face a decision.
In Samaria, one officer heard the prophecy and doubted it. The Bible says he questioned whether such a thing could even happen (2 Kings 7:2). And though he eventually saw the miracle unfold, he never enjoyed it.
Why? Because he refused to believe the Word that announced the miracle.
This same principle applies to our lives today. God speaks through His Word to offer help, restoration, and a new beginning. But we must respond with belief.
Before God changed the circumstances, He first sent His Word.
In other words, it is our faith that opens the door to what God has promised.
The greatest example of this truth is found in Jesus Christ.
The Gospel of John declares, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1). Then verse 14 reveals something astonishing: “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.”
God did not only send words of promise – He sent His Son.
Jesus came to offer humanity the greatest help of all: salvation and eternal life. Through His death and resurrection, He opened the way for every person to be forgiven, restored, and established forever in God’s family.
The invitation is simple.
Believe the Word.
Receive the Son.
Accept the help God offers.
The Word that changed Samaria’s story is the same Word that can change yours. Believe, receive, accept today!
Song
Softly and tenderly, Jesus is calling
Calling for you and for me
See on the portals, He’s waiting and watching
Watching for you and for me
Come home, come home
Ye who are weary, come home
Earnestly, tenderly, Jesus is calling
Calling, “Oh, sinner, come home”
Softly and Tenderly– Alan Jackson
