And he who had died came out bound hand and foot with grave clothes, and his face was wrapped with a cloth. Jesus said to them, ‘Loose him, and let him go.’
— John 11:44 (NKJV)
The story of Lazarus is a profound example of the Spirit of resurrection at work. Jesus calls him forth from the grave, and he comes out – alive, yet still bound. This detail reveals a truth many believers face: we are saved but still struggling with grave clothes in the form of habits, fears, and mindsets from our former life, etc.
Lazarus’ resurrection was miraculous, but it didn’t end with Jesus’ call. After he came out of the tomb, Jesus instructed others to “loose him and let him go.” This speaks to a process. Resurrection gives us a new life, but the accompanying freedom is often delivered through community, obedience, and intentional discipleship.
How many of us have received new life in Christ but still walk around bound? Grave clothes can be guilt, shame, addiction, insecurity, or even pride. They restrict movement, blur vision, and hinder progress. Resurrection is more than breathing again – it is about living unbound and unashamed.
If Christ has raised you, don’t remain wrapped in what He died to free you from.
Notice that Jesus involves others in Lazarus’ unwrapping. This reminds us that freedom sometimes comes through others helping us—pastors, mentors, family, friends, and spiritual leaders. It is okay to need help. God’s design includes mutual support in the journey to wholeness.
Furthermore, the grave clothes had to come off so Lazarus could re-enter society. Resurrection is not just about personal revival; it is also about us being repositioned for our purpose in life. You were not raised to stay hidden. You were raised to witness, to serve, to glorify God.
If Christ has raised you, don’t remain wrapped in what He died to free you from. Come out, be loosed, and walk in freedom. The Spirit of resurrection not only calls you out of the grave; it calls you into purpose. Don’t just breathe – live. Don’t just live – thrive. Let the grave clothes fall.
Song of Worship
I’m working in power – 1x
I’m working miracles – 1x
I live a life of favour – 1x
I know who I am – 1x
Prayer – Jesus, thank You for calling me out of death into life. I confess that I still carry some grave clothes—habits and mindsets that do not align with who I am in You. Today, I surrender them all. Help me to walk in the freedom You’ve provided. Surround me with people who will help me be loosed and let me go forth to live for Your glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
