“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and He will establish your plans.”
(Proverbs 16:3 NIV)
God has designed a deep connection between His favor and the work of our hands. Psalm 90:17 declares, “May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us—yes, establish the work of our hands.” Favor does not fall on idleness; it rests on diligent labor that honors God. From the beginning, God blessed work. In Genesis 2:15, we read that the Lord placed man in the garden “to work it and take care of it.” Work was not a curse—it was part of God’s original design.
When we understand this, we stop seeing work as a burden and begin to see it as a channel of favor. The Bible reminds us in John 5:17 that even Jesus said, “My Father has been working until now, and I too am working.” Work is not just human effort; it is the very expression of God’s nature in us. As spirit beings, we manifest who we are by producing, creating, and stewarding what God entrusts to us.
Work is not just human effort; it is the very expression of God’s nature in us.
When something in our lives looks broken, empty, or lacking, God shows us that work is His answer. In Genesis 1:2–3, when the earth was formless and void, God did not walk away. He began to work—speaking light, order, and beauty into existence. In the same way, whenever we face situations we do not like, our response should not be despair but diligence. Work becomes the seedbed where God plants His favor.
The truth is this: favor does not cancel responsibility. Instead, it empowers our labor so that the results go beyond human effort. Favor establishes, promotes, and multiplies the work of our hands. As long as we are on this earth, God’s pattern remains the same: He blesses work, and through work He releases His favor.
