“Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.”
–1 Timothy 6:12 (NKJV)
Confession is powerful. It releases faith, it declares God’s promises, and it silences the lies of the enemy. When God affirms, “I applaud your confession,” something stirs in your spirit, because there’s nothing more rewarding than knowing Heaven is pleased with your stand of faith.
You can be doing all the right things—declaring God’s Word, commanding in Jesus’ name, releasing angels, resisting the devil—and still find that certain breakthroughs linger. It’s not because the Word doesn’t work; it’s because some battles require more than one weapon.
No army heads into battle with just pistols.
Think about the military. No army heads into battle with just pistols. They carry an entire arsenal—drones, missiles, mines, rifles, and more—each suited for a specific kind of warfare. In the same way, believers are equipped with more than just confession. Prayer, intercession, worship, fasting, and spiritual authority are all part of your Kingdom arsenal.
There are situations where your regular faith confession—your “sniper rifle”—works beautifully. But for those bigger, more resistant strongholds, God may require you to reach for a different weapon: laying hold in the spirit. This kind of spiritual engagement isn’t passive—it’s active, deliberate, and persistent. It means going beyond your confession into a realm of intercession, travail, and spiritual confrontation. Not because the Word isn’t enough, but because God’s strategies are multifaceted.
What battles are you facing today that seem to resist your usual faith response? Could it be that God is calling you to lay hold in the Spirit through deeper prayer, extended worship, or a fast?
Be encouraged: your confession isn’t wrong, it’s right and strong. But there may be another weapon God might be asking you to pick up. When you obey and engage in prayerful pursuit, you’ll experience a new level of breakthrough.

Prayer – Father, thank You for the power of my confession. Thank You for being pleased with my faith. Thank You for training my hands for war and my fingers for battle. Show me which weapons to use in each situation and help me lay hold in the Spirit as the need arises. I want to walk in the full victory You’ve provided—in Jesus’ name, Amen.
