“Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her”
- Ephesians 5:25 (NKJV)

Marriage is one of the clearest pictures of God’s love. When Paul instructed husbands to love their wives as Christ loved the church, he set a standard that is both beautiful and costly. Christ’s love was not half-hearted, rather it was total, sacrificial, and unconditional.

For husbands, this means love is not merely about provision or protection but giving yourself fully. It means patience when tensions arise, gentleness when tempers flare, and humility when pride whispers otherwise. To love as Christ loved is to put your spouse first, even when it costs comfort, convenience, or personal preference.

For wives, the call is to respect and honor their husbands. Respect is the language men hear as love. Just as the church honors Christ, wives are invited to build their homes through words, attitudes, and actions that affirm rather than tear down. A respectful heart creates an atmosphere where love can flourish.

When marriage reflects this love, it becomes a witness to the world.

Christ loved the church even in her flaws, cleansing and sanctifying her with His Word. In the same way, we are called to accept each other’s imperfections and grow together in grace. True love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, and endures all things – 1 Corinthians 13:7.

When marriage reflects this love, it becomes a witness to the world. It shows that the gospel is not just preached in sermons but lived out in homes.

Husbands, ask God to help you love your wife more selflessly this week and continuously. Wives, ask God to help you express respect in word and deed. Together, let your marriage become a testimony of Christ’s love.

And I lift my voice

To worship You

Oh, my soul rejoice

Take joy my King

In what You hear

Let it be a sweet, sweet sound

In Your ear

Prayer Lord, thank You for the gift of marriage as a reflection of Your love. Teach husbands to love sacrificially and wives to honor respectfully. Help every marriage flourish as a living testimony of Christ and His church. In Jesus’ name, Amen
