But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy..”
- 1 Peter 1:9-10 (NKJV)

There are very few words in the lexicon usually associated with royalty. Most times, it often refers to a King or the office of ruler in authority. When a king dies, the succession plan could either be through hereditary bloodline, appointment, or by election. Whichever process that takes, only one candidate would emerge as the successor – the new king. Many thrones have been claimed also using force, by conquest and usurpation. In 2 Samuel 15, Absalom attempted to usurp David’s throne by building loyalty among the people and declaring himself king. Though his coup was initially successful, it ultimately failed, and Absalom was killed. In our world today, people have done worse things just to take a position or title.

What Jesus did

Imagine a king at his death handing over the reins of power to ALL His children. That was exactly what Jesus did for us. He made us kings without the need to fight for the position. It is now our responsibility to know what has been freely given to us in Christ Jesus and exercise our kingship over matters that pertains to life. Jesus has put all things under our feet. One name that we attribute to Jesus is the “King of kings”. He is not just the King over physical and spiritual kingdoms and kings but also, He is our King. If our Lord, Jesus is the King of kings, then as His children, we are kings also, nothing less.

He made us kings without the need to fight for the position.

What does this mean to us?

We have dominion over principalities and powers. There is room for us even in the face of fierce competition. When it seems, we are in the wilderness of life and there is no way, we should remember we are kings. The situation is waiting for us to exert dominion and authority. Kings take territories and establish their kingdoms wherever they are. We will not allow the devil to encroach on our territories, our families, our children, our career, or in our business. As kings, we mark our territories, guard our homes, stand our ground, and establish our authority wherever we find ourselves.

Song

Lord have mercy

Christ have mercy

Lord have mercy on me. (repeat)

Lord Have Mercy – Michael W. Smith

Prayer – Lord Jesus, thank You for making us kings in You. This day, we recover all that the devil has taken from us, and we declare no more losses in our lives. We walk in dominion and authority this day. Amen
