“For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us.”
– 2 Corinthians 1: 20 (NKJV)
Have you ever felt uncertain about whether God will come through for you? In times of trouble, many of us wonder if His promises still hold, especially when things don’t go according to plan. But the truth is that every promise that God has made finds its fulfilment in Jesus Christ. Through Christ’s redemptive work, we are not only saved, but we are also assured of flourishing. In Him, God’s promises are guaranteed.
The foundation of this assurance lies in four interconnected truths of redemption: substitution, inheritance, assurance, and enforcement.
First, Jesus Christ became our substitute. This is both a legal and spiritual transaction. 2 Corinthians 5:21 says, “He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” Similarly, Galatians 3:13 reminds us “Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us.” Jesus stepped in our place to bear the judgment we deserved, and in doing so, gave us the right to stand before God fully accepted. So, when we approach God, we are not dealing with a God who operates based on emotions, we are dealing with a God who is legally bound to fulfil His word.
In Him, God’s promises are guaranteed.
The second truth is inheritance. As believers, we don’t wait to earn a spiritual inheritance, it is already ours. Ephesians 1:11 says that In Him also we have obtained an inheritance. Notice that the word obtained is in past tense. This is not a future hope; it is our present reality! However, in the face of adversity, many believers forget this truth. When life hits hard, we crumble because we have not anchored our confidence in what has already been secured for us in Christ.
This leads us to the third truth – assurance. Every promise of God in this dispensation is routed through Christ Jesus. 2 Corinthians 1: 20 says, “For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us.” This is our assurance! Our assurance does not come from our works, prayers, or good deeds, but from Jesus Himself. For example, God is not obligated to heal you not because you prayed and fasted but because someone-Jesus-already took your sickness. God responds because Jesus has already met the requirement. Jesus holds God’s promises for us.
The verse says that ALL of God’s promises, not some are Yes and Amen in Him (Jesus). We may access certain blessings from God out of His mercy and sovereignty, but the absolute assurance of accessing all of God’s promises is obtained through the person and name of Jesus. This is a practical principle!
Today, walk in the confidence that God’s promises to you are not based on your efforts, but on Christ’s finished work. When you pray, put your faith in Jesus. When challenges come, remind yourself that because Jesus paid the price, you have legal access to God’s promises! Speak God’s Word with boldness, not hoping it works, but knowing that in Christ, it surely will.
