One of the most sobering moments in the Scriptures is the encounter between Jesus and the rich young ruler. As we continue reflecting on the Deep Things of God, this passage unveils a vital truth: sometimes divine instruction flows from love, yet we still resist it.
The young ruler appeared successful, disciplined, and morally upright. He had kept many commandments from his youth, yet something inside him still felt incomplete. That inner longing drew him to Jesus.
Before Jesus answered, Scripture records a powerful detail: “Jesus, looking at him, loved him.”
Everything Jesus said afterward came from that love.
This is important because many believers misunderstand divine correction. We often assume or conclude that surrender means loss. We fear obedience will diminish us instead of transforming us.
The rich young ruler battled this very struggle. His possessions had become intertwined with his identity and security. When Jesus asked him to release what held his heart, sorrow overtook him.
Love often confronts what controls us.
His reaction exposed where his trust truly rested.
The issue was never that Jesus wanted to take from him. The issue was that Jesus wanted to set him free.

In the deep things of God, divine love is not only comforting; it is transforming. God loves us enough to touch the areas where attachment competes with surrender.
Sometimes we ask for deeper encounters while resisting the very instructions that lead us into freedom.
Jesus revealed the one thing the young ruler could not release.
