And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men.”
– Colossians 3:23 NKJV

The Bible shows us again and again that favor is not random. It is drawn to faithfulness and diligence. Joseph’s story is one of the clearest pictures of how God’s favor rests on those who work with excellence. Genesis 39:4 tells us that Joseph “found favor in his sight, and served him: then he made him overseer of his house, and all that he had he put into his hand.” Joseph did not wait for favor to find him; he worked in such a way that favor could not ignore him.

When we make the lives of those we serve easier, we reflect the spirit of Christ who came not to be served, but to serve (Matthew 20:28). This is not about doing “eye service” or trying to impress people. It is about working as unto the Lord. Colossians 3:23 reminds us, “And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men.” Joseph did not cut corners or waste time; he carried out his assignments so well that even Pharaoh later said, “Go to Joseph; whatever he says to you, do” (Genesis 41:55).

Favor is attracted to stewardship.

Favor is attracted to stewardship. When we take what is placed in our hands and multiply it, God increases our influence and opens doors that no man can shut. Excellence in our work is not just a career strategy; it is a kingdom principle. Daniel was described as having “an excellent spirit” (Daniel 6:3), and this made him stand out in a foreign land. The same God who favored Joseph and Daniel is still establishing the work of faithful hands today.

Our workplaces, homes, and communities should see the light of Christ through our diligence and integrity. Every task—small or great—is an opportunity to showcase the God we serve. When we approach work with this mindset, we position ourselves for unusual favor that only God can give.
