When God opens a new door in our lives, it’s always a cause for celebration. An open door means favour has arrived, opportunities are within reach, and change is underway. Yet Scripture reminds us of a vital truth: every open door also attracts opposition.

Opposition does not mean we are outside God’s will — in fact, it often confirms that we are exactly where He wants us to be.

Paul once rejoiced that “a great and effective door” had been opened to him, but he added, “and there are many adversaries” (1 Corinthians 16:9 NKJV). He understood that open doors don’t come without resistance. Satan cannot close what God has opened, so instead he tries to discourage us from stepping through it. The moment we move forward in faith, we often encounter doubt, fear, unexpected challenges, or even criticism. But those are not signs to stop — they are signs to stand firm.

Consider Joseph. God gave him dreams of influence and leadership, yet before the crown came chains. The Word of the Lord tested him in prison until the palace door opened. Or think of the Canaanite woman, who pressed through offense and rejection until her daughter was healed. In both stories, opposition wasn’t evidence of rejection — it was the path to breakthrough.

Opposition often confirms that you’re exactly where God wants you to be.

Here’s a picture close to home: imagine being at the airport. The moment you receive your boarding pass, you also face security checks, baggage scans, and long lines. None of those obstacles mean your flight isn’t real — they simply prove you’re on your way somewhere important. The same is true with open doors. The resistance you face is evidence of progress.

This is why discernment and perseverance are crucial in seasons of opportunity. Too often we misread resistance as a closed door when it is actually a call to persistence. The God who opens the door is the same God who equips us to walk through it. Prayer anchors us, faith strengthens us, and endurance carries us across the threshold.

So today, do not fear the adversaries around your open door — they are proof that you have one. Rejoice instead that you are standing in the right place.

Take a moment to write down the opportunity or promise God has recently set before you. Beside it, list the challenges you’re currently facing. Then make this declaration over both:

“The God who opened this door will carry me through it.”

Because the One who begins the breakthrough is faithful to finish it — no matter what stands in the way.

Prayer – Lord, thank You for the open doors You have set before us. Strengthen our faith when opposition rises, and remind us that resistance is not defeat. Help us to keep moving forward with boldness, knowing that Your power is greater than every adversary. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
