“ ‘For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.”
– 1 John 5: 7 (KJV)
The Trinity: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit is a mystery that anchors us in our faith.
Let’s explore six essential qualities that are shared by all three persons of the Godhead. These shared attributes not only set God apart from every other being but also reveal the majesty and unity of the God we serve.
First, the Trinity is eternal. God has no beginning and no end. He exists outside of time, uncreated and everlasting –He Who was, Who is, and Who is to come. This eternal nature reassures us that God has always been and will always be. Our lives may shift, but our God is constant and dependable.
Second, they are self-existent. Unlike us, the Trinity depends on no one for existence. God is the great I AM, Whose being is not derived from anything or anyone else. He simply is complete and whole in Himself.

Third, they are immutable. God’s nature does not change. This brings us great hope in a world filled with change and instability. The Bible reminds us that, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever” (Hebrews 13:8), and “I am the Lord, I do not change” (Malachi 3:6). He is dependable, constant, and unwavering.
Fourth, the Trinity is omnipresent. God is present everywhere, always. Whether you are in the valley or on the mountaintop, in solitude or in a crowd, God is with you. His presence is not limited by space or time.
Fifth, they are omniscient. God knows all things. His knowledge is complete and perfect. No one teaches God, and no mystery is hidden from Him. We can rest in the assurance that nothing in our lives catches Him by surprise.
Finally, the Trinity is omnipotent. God is all-powerful. He declares in Genesis 18:14, “Is anything too hard for the Lord?” Luke 1:37 affirms, “For with God nothing shall be impossible.” Whatever mountain you face, God’s power is sufficient.
These six attributes: eternity, self-existence, immutability, omnipresence, omniscience, and omnipotence reveal the majesty of our triune God. Take a moment today to reflect on one of these attributes.
Which one do you need to hold onto right now? Whether you need comfort, strength, or assurance, let the nature of God remind you that you are never alone, and He is more than enough.
