Then the king said to her, ‘What is troubling you?’ And she answered, ‘This woman said to me, “Give your son, that we may eat him today, and we will eat my son tomorrow.”
2 Kings 6:28 (NKJV)

The city of Samaria was starving.

A siege had stretched on so long that the unimaginable had become reality.

Our text today is a painful passage to read. The famine was so severe that it drove a mother to contemplate eating her own child to survive.

But it is also painfully honest about human life. There are moments when it seems all hope is lost. And people find themselves contemplating what had once been unthinkable.

Pressure has a way of revealing how fragile people can be. When circumstances tighten their grip – financial stress, loneliness, fear, rejections, prolonged waiting, or the biological time ticking – people may make decisions they later regret.

The Bible does not hide these moments. Instead, it shows us something even greater than human weakness: the mercy of God.

God’s help is not reserved for perfect people. It is extended to broken people who need Him.

You might have done things you are ashamed of. Or you are living with regrets you wish you could erase.

Yet, God does not step away from broken people. He steps closer even in your seemingly difficult moments.

Throughout Scripture, God repeatedly meets people in their worst moments. David was restored after failure. Peter was forgiven after denial. The prodigal son was welcomed home after rebellion.

God’s help is not reserved for perfect people. It is extended to broken people who need Him.

The message is simple but powerful: no matter how far you have fallen, God’s mercy can still reach you.

He is the God who helps the broken. Reach out in prayer today and ask for mercy and restoration. He is the One who sets the captives free and binds up the brokenhearted.

Amazing grace! how sweet the sound,

That saved a wretch like me!

I once was lost, but now am found,

Was blind, but now I see.

Amazing Grace- John Newton

Prayer – Father, thank You that Your mercy reaches us even when we feel broken and ashamed. You see the places where we have fallen short, yet You still offer help and restoration. Heal our hearts, remove our shame, and remind us that Your grace is greater than our failures. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
