“I will lift up my eyes to the hills—From whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth.”
Psalm 121:1-2 (NKJV)

One of the most important truths we can learn in life is this: we all need help.

In the story of Samaria under siege (2 Kings 6–7), several people found themselves in desperate situations. The king looked powerful on the outside, dressed in royal robes, yet beneath those robes was sackcloth – a sign of distress and mourning. The women who cried out for help were overwhelmed by the severity of their situation. The lepers outside the city were forgotten and rejected. Even the prophet, though righteous, faced danger.

Different people. Different positions. One common reality – they all needed help.

This story reminds us that no one is truly self-sufficient. Regardless of our achievements, titles, or responsibilities, every person ultimately depends on God.

From the beginning, God designed humanity to live in dependence on Him. In Genesis 1:26–27, God created man in His image. And because we come from Him, we are sustained by Him.

No one can outgrow the need for the help of God.

Sometimes people try to live as though they do not need God. They depend solely on their abilities, resources, or connections. But sooner or later, life reminds us of our limitations. Challenges arise that human strength alone cannot solve.

The good news is that God is not distant or reluctant to help. He is eager to assist those who call upon Him. Scripture assures us that our help comes from the Lord – the Maker of heaven and earth. The One who created everything has both the power and the willingness to support His people.

Recognizing our need for God is not weakness. It is wisdom. Even if we have achieved everything according to man’s standards, there would yet arise one day that you will need the help of God. No one can outgrow the need for the help of God.

Song

I need Thee every hour,

Most gracious Lord;

No tender voice like Thine

Can peace afford.

I need Thee, oh, I need Thee;

Every hour I need Thee;

Oh, bless me now, my Savior!

I come to Thee.

I need Thee every hour- Robert Lowry

Prayer – Father, thank You for reminding us that our help comes from You. Forgive us for the times we try to rely on our own strength instead of seeking Your guidance. Teach us to depend on You daily and to trust that You are always ready to help. Establish our lives as we remain connected to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
