“And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them.”
- Acts 2:2-3 (KJV)

Each Person in the Godhead has distinct expressions. They manifest their presence and work in unique ways.

God the Father often veiled Himself in mystery. He is secretive, dwelling in unapproachable light (I Tim 6:16). Psalm 91:1 refers to the secret place of the Most High. His dealings are often silent and sovereign.

Jesus Christ, the Son was also remarkably reserved. Though more visible, He often chose solitude over the spotlight. At Cana, He hesitated to perform a miracle. After some other miracles, He said, “Tell no one,”. He routinely withdrew into wilderness places to pray and recharge in secret.

The Holy Spirit, however, is distinct in personality. He is expressive and dramatically present. He desires to be felt and known. While the Father is hidden and the Son often quiet, the Holy Spirit tends to draw attention to Himself. On the Day of Pentecost in Acts 2:1–4, He did not arrive quietly. He made His presence known.

The Holy Spirit tends to draw attention to Himself.

It is vital to understand this character of the Holy Spirit, especially in this dispensation. His dispensation. He wants to manifest and demonstrate Himself. He is not trying to hide in the background but to be seen, heard, and related with.

When the Holy Spirit comes upon a person or a congregation, He often stirs physical and emotional reactions. Some weep, some laugh, some fall, and some shout. These responses are demonstrations of divine power.

It is important to note that the activities of the Holy Spirit are not empty showmanship, they are purposeful. His expressions are diverse, yet they all point to Jesus and glorify God. His manifestation and demonstration are aimed towards making the power of God tangible.

As believers, we must embrace this side of God. We must make room for the expressive and powerful Holy Spirit. We must be open to Him and build a deep relationship with Him so that He can show God’s glory in us and through us.
