“Also for Adam and his wife the Lord God made tunics of skin, and clothed them.”
- Genesis 3:21 (NKJV)

After Adam and Eve sinned, their eyes were opened to their nakedness. Overwhelmed by shame, they scrambled to cover themselves with fig leaves. But fig leaves were a poor remedy for what had happened. They could hide their bodies, but not their hearts. The covering they made for themselves was inadequate.

Then, in His mercy, God came seeking them, not to condemn, but to cover. Scripture tells us that He made garments of skin and clothed them Himself. That act, simple yet profound, meant blood had to be shed. An innocent life was taken so that their guilt could be covered.

Here we find the first foreshadowing of the gospel. The message was clear even then: Jesus is coming, and He will be our covering. The first sacrifice pointed directly to “the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world” (John 1:29). Just as the innocent animal’s life covered Adam and Eve’s shame, Christ’s life was given to cover ours.

Notice it was God who provided the covering, not Adam or Eve. Their attempt with fig leaves failed, just as our human attempts always do. No amount of religious effort, morality, or success can hide our spiritual nakedness. “But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags” (Isaiah 64:6a). Like fig leaves, these self-made coverings wither quickly. But God’s covering, through the sacrifice of His Son, endures forever.

You are covered. Completely.

This is the beauty of the gospel: when you give your life to Christ, you are fully covered. When God looks at you, He does not see sin, guilt, or shame—He sees you clothed in the righteousness of His Son. You are accepted, redeemed, and made new. You no longer need to strive for approval or earn acceptance, because Jesus has already accomplished it all. At the cross, He bore your shame and gave you His robe of righteousness in exchange. “I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for He hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, He hath covered me with the robe of righteousness” (Isaiah 61:10a).

Let this truth break the cycle of guilt, shame, and self-condemnation. Rest in His covering. Walk with confidence, knowing you are deeply loved and fully accepted—not because of what you do, but because of what Christ has done for you.

Beloved, you don’t need to hide in the shadows of guilt or sew together more fig leaves of self-effort. Receive His covering afresh today. Walk boldly as one who is robed in righteousness. The sacrifice of Jesus has made you acceptable.

You are covered. Completely.

… And as He stands in victory

Sin’s curse has lost its grip on me

For I am His and He is mine

Bought with the precious blood of Christ

Prayer – Lord, thank You for the covering of Christ’s sacrifice. Remind me not to rely on my own strength or works. Help me to rest daily in Your righteousness and walk boldly in the freedom You have provided. In Jesus’ name, Amen..
