“Then Jesus said to them, ‘Most assuredly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you.”
– John 6:53 (NKJV)
These words of Jesus may sound intense, but they hold a profound truth: the power of the gospel must be experienced, not just heard. Jesus invites us not only to hear about Him, but to encounter Him.
To eat and drink of Christ is to internalize Him. It is to make His sacrifice your own personal experience. It is not enough to admire the cross from a distance or fantasize about being the subject of the testimonies of other believers. Power is not accessed by observation. It is accessed by participation.
To eat and drink of Christ is to internalize Him. It is to make His sacrifice your own personal experience.
The cross is not just where Jesus died; it is the transaction point for forgiveness, deliverance, healing, and authority. But unless you eat and drink, that is, unless you internalize the gospel, and make it your source of life, you cannot benefit from its power.
In Eden, man lost his divine strength. But on the cross, Christ restored it. Paul explained the miracle of the cross in Galatians 2:20, I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.
God’s design is that for everyone who believes, the life of Christ overrides the natural life. That restoration only becomes real in your life when you eat and drink of Him regularly, by faith, through meditation, in obedience, and through declarations.
John 19:30, Jesus declared, “It is finished.” That means everything you need is legally paid for. But legal rights must be enforced and appropriated. Just as a man requires food for survival and growth, a believer must internalize the gospel to live by its power. Power is not in self-will or human effort, but in constant connection with what Jesus has already accomplished.
We see again in 1 Corinthians 2:2 how crucial the cross is for life in Christ when Paul said he is determined to know nothing except “Jesus Christ and Him crucified.” That’s because Paul understood that the mystery of power is in the cross. Eat and drink daily. Let the gospel fuel your mind, your decisions, and your expectations. Don’t just visit the cross-live from it.
Today, there is a need to review your way of life and see whether you are living by the strength of the crucified Christ by daily internalizing the gospel of His death, burial and resurrection? Are you growing in might or are you running on empty, disconnected from the power source?
Prayer – Lord Jesus, I choose to eat and drink of You daily. Let the power of Your cross become my constant source of life and strength. Amen.
