“Ask! What may I do for you, before I am taken away from you?” Elisha said, “Please let a double portion of your spirit be upon me.”
- 2 Kings 2:9 (NKJV)
Every journey into purpose demands courage. You cannot fulfill destiny timidly. Fear paralyzes purpose, but audacity activates it. The story of Elisha reminds us that purpose requires boldness, the kind of faith that dares to ask big and believe even bigger. Audacity is not arrogance; it is simply refusing to live beneath your divine potential.
When Elijah asked Elisha what he desired before being taken up, Elisha’s request was audacious: “I want a double portion of your spirit.” This was not a small thing. Elijah was the prophet who called down fire, shut the heavens, and stood fearlessly before kings, and Elisha dared to ask for twice that anointing. Yet this is the kind of boldness God honors. The timid do not take territories.
Fear entered humanity at the fall. Before Adam sinned, he knew no fear; he walked in complete dominion. But after sin, fear replaced boldness. That is why the Scriptures says in Proverb 28:1 that “The righteous are as bold as a lion.” You carry the nature of your Father, and your Father is the Lion of the Tribe of Judah. Lions do not cower. You cannot inherit purpose while walking in fear.
Often, culture nurtures timidity. Many are raised to stay silent, to avoid eye contact, or to shrink back in deference. While humility is godly, false humility limits divine expression. True purpose requires unlearning timidity. You cannot fulfill destiny with your head bowed in fear. Lift your head – you are a child of God.
You cannot fulfill destiny timidly.
Elisha’s audacity positioned him for greatness. He refused to see his master as a ceiling but as a starting point. Every generation should surpass one before it. Sons multiply where servants merely replicate. Elisha desired more, not out of pride, but because he understood that divine inheritance expands with each generation.
Audacity also means daring to dream differently from your past. You may come from lack, but that is not your destiny. Every limitation of your background is an invitation for God to display His greatness through you. The dreams that stretch you are often the very dreams that shape your purpose.
Fearless faith is the seed of exploits. Scripture declares that God can do “exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think” – Ephesians 3:20. Your imagination sets the stage for His manifestation. If you can think it, He can surpass it. The world may call you proud for dreaming big, but Heaven will call you obedient.
The journey into purpose demands audacity, the courage to ask boldly, believe fearlessly, and dream greatly. Never shrink your destiny to make others comfortable. You serve a big God; think like His child. Be bold enough to say, “I want a double portion.” Let your faith stretch the boundaries of what is possible, for nothing is too great for the God who called you.
Prayer – Father, thank You for making me Your child. Deliver me from every spirit of fear and timidity. Fill my heart with holy audacity to ask big, dream big, and live boldly. Let the courage of the Lion of Judah rise in me. May I never settle for less than what You have designed for me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
