“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name.”
- Matthew 6:9 (NKJV)
Among the many blessings God bestows upon us, there is one that anchors our entire relationship with Him, the blessing of knowing Him as Father. Jesus unveiled this truth in His teaching on prayer. When He began with the words “Our Father,” it was far more than a greeting; it was a revelation of identity, access, and belonging. This blessing draws us into mercy, establishes intimacy, and forms the foundation of how we walk with God.
The grace that keeps God as our Father is a sustaining gift. In 2 Samuel 7:14, God declares that although He would discipline David’s descendants for their iniquities, His mercy would not depart from them. This reveals the heart of a true Father, firm in correction, yet unwavering in love. Discipline may come, but relationship remains. Mercy endures because covenant cannot be cancelled.
This truth is powerfully reaffirmed in Romans 8:38–39:
“For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
When we become Christians, we step into the blessing of God’s fatherhood. It keeps us near, draws us back when we drift, and strengthens our hearts to honor God with our lives.
Knowing God as Father secures our belonging and calls us to honor Him.
This blessing does more than assure us of love; it empowers us to live rightly. In the book of Malachi, God lamented that His people called Him Father yet did not honor Him as such. True honor goes beyond words; it is revealed in obedience, reverence, and priority. The blessing that keeps God as our Father grants us grace to value His presence, respect His ways, and offer Him the best of our lives. It shapes our desires, cultivates humility, and awakens holy reverence within us.
As this blessing rests upon us, mercy follows. We grow in quiet confidence, knowing that our Father is patient and steadfast. God’s fatherhood is not fragile, it is consistent, compassionate, and rooted in covenant love. This assurance delivers us from fear and draws us deeper into trust. When trials arise, we remember that we are not abandoned. When we stumble, we rise again, because His mercy remains.
Today, we embrace the blessing that keeps God as our Father. We receive fresh grace to honor Him, walk with Him, and live as true sons and daughters. With open hearts, we stand under the covering of His mercy and commit ourselves anew to a life that brings Him joy.
