“ Knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.”
- 1 Peter 1:18-19 (NKJV)
The word redemption means “to buy back” or “to set free by paying a price.” In ancient times, it often referred to purchasing a slave’s freedom – a complete release from bondage. This is exactly what Jesus Christ has done for us.
We were once enslaved to sin, shackled by guilt, shame, and the looming sentence of eternal separation from God. No amount of good work, religious effort, or moral discipline could secure our freedom. The cost was far too high – it required a perfect, sinless sacrifice.
So, God sent His Son. Jesus came not merely to teach or to heal, but to die to pay the ultimate price with His own blood. He became our substitute, bearing our punishment, absorbing God’s wrath, and reconciling us to the Father. Through the cross, He purchased our freedom; through the resurrection, He secured our new life.
A Picture of Redemption
Picture yourself walking into a grocery store and buying a bag of flour. The moment you pay in full, ownership legally transfers to you. The store no longer has a claim on that flour; it cannot dictate what you do with it. Whether you make bread, pancakes, or a moist, fragrant banana cake, the flour now serves your purpose – not the seller’s.
In the same way, when Jesus shed His blood, the ownership of your life changed hands. You were once under the dominion of sin and Satan, but the receipt of your redemption was signed in the blood of Christ. The devil has no right to reclaim what Jesus has already purchased and paid for.
Now imagine the absurdity of the grocery store knocking on your door demanding back the flour – after you’ve already baked it into a cake! Absurd, right?
In the same way, when the enemy comes after your health, your family, your finances, or your purpose, you must resist him. Show him the proof of payment – the blood of Jesus – and claim what is rightfully yours.
Redemption is not just a doctrine – it is your new identity.
A Call to Honor
The Scripture declares, “You were bought with a price [you were actually purchased with the precious blood of Jesus and made His own]. So then, honor and glorify God with your body.” – 1 Corinthians 6:20 AMP
Just as the flour can no longer belong to the store, your life can no longer belong to sin. You now belong fully to Christ. This means living with unwavering devotion, following Him no matter what life brings. It is no longer you who live, but Christ who lives in you.
What This Means for You
- You are free – not because you earned it, but because Jesus paid for it.
- You are forgiven – your past no longer defines you.
- You are valuable – God considered you worth the blood of His Son.
- You are God’s child – no longer a slave to fear or sin and no longer subjected to condemnation.
Redemption is not just a doctrine – it is your new identity. Live in the freedom Christ has secured for you and let your life be a continual testimony of His glory.
Song
I need no other argument,
I need no other plea,
It is enough that Jesus died,
And that He died for me.
My Faith Has Found A Resting Place by Song by Hymns You Love to Sing Performers ‧ 2012
Prayer – Lord Jesus, thank You for redeeming me. Thank You for paying the price I could never pay. Help me to live in the fullness of Your freedom, to walk in grace and truth, and to share this good news with those still in bondage. I am Yours, redeemed and restored. In Your name, Amen.
