But we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block and to the Greeks foolishness, but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.”
- 1 Corinthians 1:23-24 (NKJV)

Over 2000 years ago, a reactor was built and launched, and it is still radiating power today. All it took to build it were two wooden beams and a Messiah sent to save the whole world. The mystery of the power God has imparted to His children is found in the cross of Jesus. The impartation of power is what serves to validate our identity as children of God. Romans 1:16 (NKJV) reminds us that the Gospel of Christ is the power of salvation.

Impartation Through the Cross

When Adam and Eve sinned, man lost power. The divine connection with God was broken, and that began God’s plan to reconcile us to Himself through the cross – Ephesians 2:16. God used the cross as the means of imparting power back to us. Galatians 3:13-14  “Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us, that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith”.

How to Receive Impartation

Impartation is the release of power and authority. It is derived from the Latin word impertire / impartire, which means to share, grant, or distribute. Through the cross, God has made this power available to us. Here are two ways we can plug in and receive this power.

The cross is an ongoing source of power.

First, we must learn to give thanks for the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross. Thanksgiving is one of the ways we can access power. When we consciously give God thanks for what He did on the cross, we connect and plug into God’s power. Thanksgiving also shifts our focus away from our weakness and back to God. It grants us access to His presence and makes His power manifest in our lives. When Paul and Silas were arrested and while in prison, they offered thanksgiving instead of focusing on their situation, and God’s power showed up to deliver them – Acts 16:25-26. Thanksgiving is the starting point for accessing the power of the cross.

Next, we must know and believe in the Gospel of the Cross. Philippians 3:10 – “That I may know Him and the power of His resurrection”. The power that was lost at the fall of Adam and Eve is restored when we believe the Gospel of Jesus and the Cross of Salvation. It is that simple: Christ died (the payment for our sin), He was buried (the invoice confirming payment received), and He rose (the activation of power) – 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 (NKJV). When we believe this, we plug into God’s power and are reconnected to His power supply.

2 Corinthians 13:4 – His weak, human body died on the cross, but now He lives by the mighty power of God. We, too, are weak in our bodies, as He was, but now we live and are strong, as He is, and have all of God’s power to use in dealing with you. The cross is not just something that happened over 2000 years ago; it is an ongoing source of power for anyone who knows how to plug into it.

Holy words of our faith

Handed down to this age

Came to us through sacrifice

Oh, heed the faithful words of Christ

Ancient words, ever true

Changing me and changing you

We have come with open hearts

Oh, let the ancient words impart

Ancient Words

By Michael W. Smith (2002)

Prayer – Lord I thank You for the cross of Jesus, I thank You for the sacrifice and I worship You for the cross. In the name of Jesus, power is released to me, I gain speed by power and the power correlating to my identity in Christ is released to me in Jesus Name! Amen.
