“And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power”
– 1 Corinthians 2:4 (KJV)
While God the Father is secretive and God the Son walks in quiet humility, God the Holy Spirit likes to be seen, heard, and felt at work. He is the expressive One of the Godhead. The Holy Spirit doesn’t hide, He reveals. He doesn’t whisper from a distance, He makes His presence known. This devotional explores the dramatic and unmistakable nature of the Holy Spirit, who desires to show Himself to us, in us, through us, on our behalf, and amongst us.
Think back to the moment you gave your life to Christ. It may have been a quiet, deeply personal moment yet life-changing likely without dramatic fireworks. But the moment you were filled with the Holy Spirit? You likely remember a stirring, whether it was joy, tears, boldness, or power. That is because the Holy Spirit reveals Himself in ways that are tangible. He does not stay hidden. There are two ways He shows Himself in the scripture. First, 1 Corithians12:7 tells us about the manifestation of the Spirit while 1 Corinthians 2:4 mentions the demonstration of the spirit.
The Holy Spirit doesn’t hide, He reveals.
The Greek word for manifestation is phanerosis. This word means to show forth. It can be likened to or used to describe when a touch light is put on. It is not aggressive. It is just a showing. Manifestation can be mild. But “demonstration” comes from the Greek word epideixi, which implies a display or dramatization – something done to remove all doubt. Demonstration is not just a gentle whisper; it is an undeniable encounter.
From the beginning, the Holy Spirit has moved. This is evident in Genesis 1:2 – “And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.” Yet He remained abstract until the day of Pentecost. Then suddenly, in Acts 2:2, He showed up in power, “like a rushing mighty wind”, and everyone saw, heard, and felt Him. That moment marked the Spirit’s transition from invisible presence to personal experience.
Today, make room for both the manifestation and the demonstration of the Holy Spirit in your life. Ask Him to reveal Himself to you. Yield to His presence. Whether He chooses to whisper or roar, open your heart and let Him work in you and through you for and to the glory of God.
Prayer – Holy Spirit, I welcome You. Manifest Yourself in my life and demonstrate Your power in ways that reveal the love and glory of God. Help me stay open and sensitive to all You want to do in me, through me, and among us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
