“And the Lord said, Take an heifer with thee, and say, I am come to sacrifice to the Lord.
– 1 Samuel 16:2b (KJV)
One characteristic of the prophetic is that it is prescriptive in nature. When God speaks through a prophet, it may sound like a command, not a suggestion. In the same way a doctor gives a prescription to treat a specific issue, the prophetic voice gives instructions that must be followed precisely for breakthrough to manifest.
In 1 Samuel 16, God did not just tell Samuel to anoint a king, He gave detailed steps: “Take a heifer. Go to Jesse’s house. Say these words. Anoint the one I show you.” The prophetic did not leave room for guessing or negotiation. The instruction was clear, and obedience was required.
Most times, the miracle that you are praying for is waiting on the other side of obedience to a prophetic instruction. The prophetic may sound controlling or even uncomfortable, but these instructions are not about control, they are about divine alignment. They position you to receive what heaven has already prepared.
Breakthrough is often disguised as obedience to something simple.
The prescriptive nature of the prophetic requires humility. Our logical minds may push back. We may question the relevance of the instruction or even feel offended. But just like Naaman had to dip in the Jordan seven times (2 Kings 5:10), and the servants had to draw water to find wine (John 2:7-9), prophetic instructions usually carry breakthrough in their simplicity.
If you want to walk in prophetic promotion, you must become a doer, not just a hearer. God rarely speaks just to inform, He speaks to instruct. And those who experience the fulfilment of His word are those who act on what He says. That may mean sowing a sacrificial seed, making a phone call, forgiving someone, changing your routine, or simply being still.
Let this be a season where you do not just hear prophetic words but you follow through with prophetic obedience. If God is giving you a specific instruction, however unusual it may seem, take it seriously. Breakthrough is often disguised as obedience to something simple.
Prayer – Heavenly Father, thank You for being a God who guides with precision. Help me to recognize Your voice and to respond with faith-filled obedience. Where I’ve hesitated or argued, give me the grace to surrender and follow. Let every prophetic instruction You’ve spoken over my life be fulfilled as I obey. Teach me to trust Your direction even when it doesn’t make sense. In Jesus’ name, amen.
