“Our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us from your hand, O king. But if not… we do not serve your gods nor will we worship the gold image which you have set up.” - Daniel 3:17-18 (NKJV)  Faith is often misunderstood as the …

“Our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us from your hand, O king. But if not… we do not serve your gods nor will we worship the gold image which you have set up.”
Daniel 3:17-18 (NKJV)

Faith is often misunderstood as the certainty that God will do exactly what we want, how we want it.

But the testimony of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in Daniel 3 gives us a higher picture: true faith is confidence in God and in His word, regardless of the outcome.

Their words before King Nebuchadnezzar are powerful.

First, they declared: “Our God is able.” This was confidence in His power. They knew that God could save them from the flames, no matter how hot the furnace burned.

Second, they affirmed: “He will deliver us.” This was confidence in His promise and His faithfulness to His people.

But their most remarkable declaration was this: “Even if He does not, we will not bow.” This was confidence in His sovereignty.

This deeper level of faith does not rest in what God does for us but in who He is. It is not results-based but relationship-based. They were willing to obey God, even if it cost them their lives, because they knew He was worthy of worship apart from circumstances.

God is able, God is faithful, and God is sovereign—even if the fire still burns.

Faith like this can be costly, but it is also unshakable. It is the kind of faith that does not crumble when prayers seem unanswered, when healing delays, when doors do not open as quickly as we had hoped.

It is the faith that says: God is able, God is faithful, and God is sovereign—even if the fire still burns.

Such faith is rare in a culture that often treats God as an end. But Scripture reminds us that without faith it is impossible to please God (Hebrews 11:6). The faith that pleases Him is not conditional, not transactional, but surrendered. It declares: “My hope is not in outcomes but in the living God.”

Today, may we rise to this level of faith. Let us trust Him fully, obey Him completely, and honour Him above all, knowing that our lives are secure in His hands no matter what unfolds. God is able, and God is good, even in the furnace.

Still I Will Trust You

The Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir

Prayer – Father, thank You for showing me that true faith is not measured by outcomes but by trust in You. Help me to anchor my confidence in Your power, Your promises, and Your sovereignty. Strengthen me to worship You even in uncertainty and to remain steadfast in every season. May my life declare that I will trust You, regardless of the circumstances. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
