Yet it was the Lord’s will to crush him and cause him to suffer.
– Isaiah 53:10a
A common misconception about healing is that God sometimes does not heal. This thought often arises after significant efforts, resources spent, and prayers offered for a sickness, especially during prolonged illnesses. Over time, some may accept that the persistence of the illness is God’s will. However, this is not true! God’s sovereign will regarding sickness is for us to be healed—always!
Isaiah 53:4-6 reveals that Jesus bore our griefs and sorrows, including all forms of sickness. His suffering on our behalf assures us that healing is available. Isaiah 53:10a emphasizes that it was God’s will for Jesus to endure this suffering: “Yet it was the Lord’s will to crush him and cause him to suffer.”
Every believer in Christ should have the confident assurance that it is God’s desire for us to be whole—physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
In John 10:17-18, Jesus explained that He willingly gave His life to make healing available to us. In Matthew 8:2-4, a leper approached Jesus, asking if He was willing to heal him. Jesus replied in verse 3, “I am willing; be cleansed.” Immediately, the leper was healed.
Healing should not be a matter of doubt or uncertainty. Every believer in Christ should have the confident assurance that it is God’s desire for us to be whole—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. 3 John 2 echoes this: “Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.”
While circumstances may sometimes seem contrary, our faith in God, His Word, and His unchanging nature remind us that His will is always to restore, renew, and bring healing. Just as the leper received cleansing when he approached Jesus, we too can come to Him with unwavering confidence, knowing that He is both willing and able to heal.
